Upcycled Shark Craft

We are wrapping up Shark Week with this fun upcycled Shark craft made with paper towel rolls!  Read below to see how we made this craft and for some great educational Shark Week themed children’s book recommendations.

Supplies:

  • Paper towel roll cut in half to make 2 sharks or toilet paper roll to make 1
  • Blue paint
  • Paintbrush
  • White paper
  • Glue
  • Googly eyes
  • Scissors
  • Optional: Sharpie/Black marker

Steps:

  • If using paper towel roll cut in half.
  • Cut top of roll to create two “V” shapes (this will be the sharks mouth) save the scraps you will need them later!
  • Paint your “shark” roll and the scraps you cut as those will be the fin & tail.
  • Let everything dry. Tip: Let the rolls dry standing up as shown above so they don’t get stuck to your work surface.
  • While everything is drying cut out strips of teeth for your shark using the white paper & a zig-zag pattern.
  • Trim the zig-zag strips to fit the mouth, we did this in four sections (2 on top & 2 on bottom.)
  • Once roll is dry, glue the teeth strips to the inside of the “mouth” and attach the googly eyes.
  • Use one painted scrap for the tail and place partially inside the other end of the shark roll. Use the other scrap as the fin on top. Tip: Fold the bottom of the “fin” so part of it is flat, this makes it easier to glue on.
  • Optional: Use a marker to draw lines and extra features to make your shark look more realistic.
  • Lastly, let glue dry completely before playing with your shark!

Book Recommendations:

Now that you have your fun shark craft drying here are some great educational books to read with your little ones that help teach children of all ages about sharks & sea creatures.

  2. This looks like so much fun. My children are probably too old for this, but my niece and nephew would really enjoy this. Thanks for sharing.
